Adult Anger
Management
The Anderson
& Anderson Anger Management Curricula is the one and
only anger management training approved by the state
Board of Corrections for the training of Probation,
Parole and Correctional Officers in California. This
model is also used in Canada, Philippines, England,
Mexico, Guam, United States, Ireland, South Africa,
Cayman Islands, Bermuda and Italy. This training is
also available on interactive CDs.
This training
consists of two days of training. The first day will focus on Adult Anger Management and will use
the Anderson workbook Controlling Ourselves as the
text. Videos and exercises will be used. A
demonstration and discussion of the Conover
Assessment Component will be conducted. This one-day
training is designed for School
Counselors/Psychologists, Substance Abuse
Counselors, Clinicians, as well as staff from group
homes, and agencies serving families and youth. This
curriculum is currently being used in school
districts in Los Angeles, Oakland, Sacramento,
Concord and San Diego, as well as school districts
in Texas and Louisiana. In addition, probation
departments in Arizona, Kansas, California and Texas
are using this model.
The second
day, Advanced Training, is designed for experienced
group facilitators or those who have already
completed the two-day training. This will allow
participates to fine-tune their skills while having
an opportunity to participate in demonstration
groups using the client workbooks. The focus will be
on styles of leadership, group process, group
cohesion, and developing competence in the Anderson
& Anderson psycho-educational model of intervention.
Marketing and the business of an anger management
practice will be explored in depth.
The Anderson
& Anderson model of anger management intervention
relies heavily on emotional intelligence assessment
and intervention. This course is designed to enhance
the emotional intelligence components of our client
workbooks and facilitator certification training.
The course will be interactive so that each
participant will be given an opportunity to take and
score his or her own Personal Skills (emotional
intelligence) Map. In addition, skill enhancement in
Interpersonal Assertion, Stress Management, Empathy
and Communication will be examined in considerable
detail.

Certification
Dr.
Evans is a Certified Anger Management Facilitator.
He was trained by George Anderson (Mr. Anderson was
the consultant to the motion picture Anger
Management). Dr. Evans' services as an Anger
Management Facilitator are designed for individuals
who have problems managing angry feelings. (See
our program objectives.) Anger is a
basic human emotion. Dr. Evans also provides
training for organizations that are interested in
training their staff on reducing conflict, managing
stress, controlling anger and increasing emotional
intelligence. In addition, Dr. Evans trains
professionals in the facilitation of anger
management groups. Anger is frequently referred to as a
secondary emotion. Anger is secondary to or is used
to express other negative feelings such as fear,
rage, unhappiness, discontent, depression and
others. (See our checklist.) Frequently, the angry
person gains attention, control and influence from
or over others. The expression of anger is learned
and, therefore, we can "unlearn" the inappropriate
or self-defeating expression of it when we learn new
skills. The expression of anger can have some
very heavy costs. (Read
about the costs of anger.) Dr. Evans teaches the acceptable
expression of anger and helps individuals recognize
and manage anger, thereby eliminating violent and
self-destructive behaviors from their lives.
Participants will learn to identify and control
their anger so that it does not become a destructive
force in their lives. By gaining a better
understanding of self, individuals will learn to
better control their anger so that it doesn't lead
to violent outbursts or actions that are harmful to
others. Different techniques are learned for stress
management and enhancing emotional intelligence.
Also part of this program is a focus on improving
communications so that individuals may become better
listeners and communicators. Please note that anger management
training is an educational process and is not
psychotherapy or counseling. Psychotherapy and
counseling typically are not effective in anger
management. Anger management is about learning new
behavior, not treating psychological illness.
Individuals diagnosed with psychiatric disorders
typically are not suitable for anger management
training alone. Anger and emotional management
training is conducted for both individuals in groups
and for organizations. Organizations will enjoy not
only a more peaceful and safer environment but will
realize other benefits as well. Organizations that
provide training for their staff in anger and
emotional management will realize greater
productivity and efficiency. A staff that knows how
to communicate well with each other and respect
themselves and others are more likely to create a
corporate culture that will produce greater results
than one that does not.
